Hip, Hip, Hooray for our PTA!

October is National Physical Therapy Month, and what better time to highlight Physical Therapy Assistant Emily Wallace?

"I have worked at Aberdeen Village/Aegis for about a year and a half. I had just moved here from Indiana with my family," said Emily. "I have an associate’s degree in health science, and I have worked in long-term care for 11 years with a great interest in aquatic therapy."

Emily decided to pursue physical therapy when she was in middle school and watched her grandmother go through a bilateral knee replacement.

"My mother is a nurse practitioner. I always knew I wanted to help people, so after I watched my grandmother go through all that, I knew that was my calling," said Emily. "My favorite part of my job is watching the light in patients’, and their families’, eyes grow as they watch their loved one progress and get better to be able to go back to their prior level. I love listening to patients tell the stories about their lives and see all the changes over the years and what they had to go through."

When she's not at work, Emily enjoys being with her family. She has a 3-year-old little girl and another on the way very soon!

"We love to go to the zoo, park and shop. I am a very family-oriented person, so anything I can do with them is great! I love to travel, but I just don’t get to do so much with little ones."

We're glad Emily is part of our Aberdeen Village family, and we appreciate all the ways physical therapy professionals help our residents and others!
